Southern Movie Stars Are Great Politicians

It was 1984 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. The state’s chief minister, M G Ramachandran (MGR), was battling for survival at a hospital in Brooklyn in the US. A recorded image of MGR waving out to his fans from the hospital bed was enough to send his fans into a frenzy and the mood went soaring in his favour. He won the elections, got relected and ensured it was the first time a CM was elected to office without participating in a campaign.

N T Rama Rao was a great icon in Andhra Pradesh. He had played the role of Lord Krishna in a number of films and his fans would often perform aartis in theatres when he appeared as Krishna or any of the other gods for that matter. He used this adulation and in real life too, he would dress up like one of the gods and get onto a chariot to the delight of his mesmerised fans. This worked remarkably well during the elections and the crowds welcomed their screen god.

C N Annadurai (Anna), the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, was elected to office in 1967. Two years later , in a rather sudden development, he passed away. Immensely popular as a scriptwriter and dialogue writer for Tamil cinema, he was the finest orator of his time. There have been instances when his speeches lasted over four hours to a spellbound audience. Anna’s funeral in Chennai saw an audience of 15 lakh people from across Tamil Nadu. This was unparalleled and the Guinness Book was quick to make a note of it.

'Rajyam' Goes To Chiru

In a typical unfolding of a celluloid action type drama, megastar-turned-politician Chiranjeevi on Friday managed to persuade Veeraballi Chenna Krishnaiah, the Kadapa advocate who had initiated moves to get a party by the name "Prajarajyam" registered with the Election Commission, to withdraw his application and pave the way for the genesis of Chiranjeevi's political outfit by the same name.

According to reliable sources Dr P Vinay, a surgeon who has emerged as a close aide of Chiranjeevi, took Krishnaiah to Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi and thereafter the Kadapa advocate submitted a letter to the EC withdrawing his application at around 3 pm on Friday. "With this, the threat of hiccups in Chiranjeevi getting the name Prajarajyam for his party has been ironed out," an aide told TOI.

Earlier on in the day, an Election Commission official had told TOI that an application for the registration of a party by name 'Prajarajyam' filed by Krishnaiah was pending with them. "However, the application was in plain paper and not supported by relevant documents. We sent him a letter asking him to file the application in the proper format and with supporting documents. He has not responded to that yet," said the official.

But the entire episode was not without its political drama with the Congress and the opposition Telugu Desam party trying their best to woo Krishnaiah in order to destabilise Chiranjeevi's political plans. "On the outside, the Congress and the TDP may say they are not perturbed by Chiranjeevi's entry into politics. But by trying to woo Krishnaiah, they have admitted to the contrary," sources close to the actor said.

According to sources, while the Congress could not succeed in 'netting' the advocate from Lakireddypalli in Kadapa, the TDP did manage to whisk him to the party office here on Thursday night and planned to arrange a meeting of Krishnaiah with TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu. However, once they realised that he does not have a foolproof case, they dropped him.

Later, aides of Chiranjeevi managed to grab Krishnaiah and in talks between Allu Arvind and others and the advocate, the issue was clinched in Chiru's favour and the appointment with the EC in New Delhi where Krishnaiah would withdraw his application was scheduled for Monday.

Meanwhile, Krishnaiah himself remained incommunicado for the media throughout Friday and his family and friends in Lakireddypally too could not contact him. The advocate apparently had ties with the Lok Satta party as well as with the TDP through his relatives who were members of the main opposition party.

Chiru aides said their application for registration of the 'Prajarajyam' party has been filed with the EC and that the papers are in order. The application was filed on August 26, barely a few hours before the mega meeting at Tirupati. "We fulfilled all the requirements of the Election Commission. This includes the stipulated number of affidavits signed by party members. We have furnished all relevant documents and required affidavits," the sources said

Chiru Brushes Up His Speech A Top The Hills

The matinee idol lived in his filmy-cum-political role to the 'T' from the time he arrived at the Renigunta airport on Tuesday to the time he went on to address the public meeting at Avilala Tank area.

The suspense over the mega star's entry to the temple town came to an end when Chiranjeevi landed in the airport at around 8.15 am accompanied by his wife Surekha and son Ram Charan Teja. Though rumours made rounds that Chiru would be arriving in a special aircraft or helicopter , he came to the town by a regular commercial Air Deccan flight.

The organisers succeeded in diverting the attention of the fans by saying that Chiru had already reached Tirumala late on Monday night, while some said he was staying in a star hotel in Tirupati .

However, Chiru accompanied by his family and advisor Dr P Mitra left for Tirumala at around 8.30 am in a white Toyota (bearing number AP 9 DT T/R 7936) car and reached TSR Guest House at around 9.15 am. Though it was planned that he would go for darshan of Lord Venkateswara during the kalyana utsavam break and perform special pujas, he cancelled the programmes since he was keen on rehearsals for his maiden public address.

Once Surekha and Ram Charan made their way out to Tirupati at around 10 am, Chiru was all alone in the guest house, trying hard to brush up his oratorical skills. It is learnt that the script for the public address was written by dialogue writer Bharavi and guided by former TDP MP Yelamanchili Shivaji. "As the time was short the star had to make some amendments in his speech. Annaiah's attention was totally centrifuged on the public. So, he discussed the nitty-gritty of the speech with Shivaji," an insider said.

Some TTD staff and the police outside the guest house said that they overheard the loud dialogue delivery of Bharavi, trying to train the star to deliver his speech on the lines of NTR, who was famous for his dramatics.

In the afternoon, Chiru confabulated with some farmers' leaders to discuss the problems of ryots in the state.

Though very little is known as to what transpired in the guest house, sources said the star was keen to highlight the farmers' issues.

Insiders said the star's focus was more on fine-tuning his oratorical skills and how to impress the large gathering at the meeting.

At around 5 pm, the star's convoy set out for the Avilala Tank area where Chiru began addressing the public at around 5.40 pm. But as an aside to the star's day out in Tirumala, a TTD functionary hit the nail when he said, "It seems that he (Chiru) has landed here only to avoid the fan frenzy and prepare his political copy in this politicalfree zone."

Membership Drive On For Chiru Party

After the mega hit of the Praja Rajyam party launch here, the district party wing has begun a drive on membership enrollment with special focus on youth and women.

A party leader said they would spare no efforts in attracting youngsters to the party since Chiranjeevi insisted at the Avilala public meeting that the youth form the fulcrum of his party. Though the din associated with the launch of the party dissipated in the temple town, the star's fans continued to go ga-ga over the super success of the mega show.

"Annaiah would definitely make his mark on the political front too. Till yesterday we were his die-hard fans, but henceforth we will be the disciplined soldiers of the Praja Rajyam party," Ashok Yadav from Vizianagaram told 'TOI'. A housewife P Nagabhushana from Tirupati said though the maiden speech of the mega star was good, Chiru was not specific as to what he would do for the welfare of the people. "He mentioned about the abnormal hike in the prices of essential commodities, but he did not specify the steps to contain the price spiral," she opined.

Retired librarian P Sham said the turnout was massive because every one was eager to have a glimpse of the star. "But Chiranjeevi's speech lacked substance, vigour and punch which one associated with NT Rama Rao," he said.

While Chiru said his focus would be on farmers' welfare, his address cut little with the ryots. P Krishnaiah, a farmer from Avilala village, said: "There was nothing in his speech. He just spoke like any other political entrant."

7:20 pm
All are soldiers in our party including me
All are soldiers in the war against social problems. There are no leaders in our party. All are soldiers including us. We don’t have selfishness and we don’t have fear. Hence we will win. Let us work hard to build a beautiful future. We want change. We will eliminate the poverty and bring smile among all the people of AP. Bravery and honesty are our weapons. Do not bother about people who sling mud on us. Let them discourage us. The more they discourage, the great our determination we will be.

People penned my role
Lot of writers penned many roles for me in the past for films. This new role is written by you people. And this role is going to be the one which I will live my lifetime. My life is dedicated to you people. Thank you very much. Jai Hind.

7:15 pm
The party anthem being played
After explaining about the party flag, Chiranjeevi played the anthem of Praja Rajyam party. It is accompanied by the cool visuals that support the agenda of Chiranjeevi and the concept of various ingredients embedded in the party flag.

7:10 pm
Flag is inspired by nature
Sun rise is our symbol. There are 24 rays to the sun in the flag which denotes that we spread the energy and light of sun throughout 24 hours. Red color of sun is symbol of change. White background is the mixture of vibgyor which represents people from all castes. The green streak indicates farmers. The yellow line around sun represents the smile that we will bring on the faces of every citizen. Red, White and Green represent Hindu, Christian and Muslims. Hence we are equally good for all the religions.

7 pm
The symbol is Sun
Just now the flag of Chiranjeevi Party is hoisted. The symbol is sun colored in red. The background color of flag is white. There is a streak of green symbolizing the farmers. The image of flag is something like this. There are some rays of sun in this flag. .

6:57 pm
I am for the sentiment of Telangana
Telanga has lot of cultural and historical heritage. It has natural resources and a great history. People have opinion that injustice is done to Telangana. That is because of the biased nature of the earlier governments. Telangana has ‘athma gourava samasya’. I will respect the sentiment. If we have to separate Andhra from Telangana, I am willing to cooperate.

6:55 pm
Justice to economically backward class
All the castes have people who are economically backward. There is no caste to the poor. We will recognize such people as EBC (economically backward class) and my party will support them.

6:50 pm
I am against Government selling lands
Selling lands like doing injustice to our future generations. I am completely against. Government is misusing farmer lands by grabbing from them and giving it to SEZ. I am against giving farming land to SEZ. But I am not against globalization. I want industries to come to AP. But I will give them only those lands that are not used for farming.

6:47 pm
Naxalism is a social problem
Naxalism is erupted from poor. Poor is the deep cause of youth becoming naxals. I am not looking at naxalism as a law and order issue. I look at it as social problem. I would scientifically look at the problem and debate it with intellectuals and come up with a solution.

6:45 pm
Discourage selling of alcohol
Alcohol destroys several homes in AP. The government is giving them money with schemes and taking money from them by selling liquor at the same time. We will make strong commitment towards discouraging selling of liquor.

6:40 pm
Organized corruption should go
People generally take bribes to do things that are illegal and illegitimate. But here in India, most of the officers take bribes to do their duty. I want to cleanse corruption from the top level starting from political system. Hunger, necessity and greediness are three things that drive corruption. One can cure people who are corrupt because of hunger and necessity. But we should eliminate people who do corruption because of greediness.

6:35 pm
There are people who cant get Rs.2 kg rice and who can’s afford Rs. 25 per kg
There are people who are above the social condition of availing 2/- per kg rice and who also can’t afford 25/- for a kg of rice. There are many labors and lower middle class people who are in this segment. I would bring justice to them.

6:30 pm
Farmers get top priority
Chiranjeevi spelt out Sri Sri’s poem “Kammali kolimi, Kummari chakram..” first and explained it. The farmer bachelors are not getting married because of their profession. Farmers will get the top priority.

Education is second priority
Only wealthy people are getting in to good educational institutes. Education has become business, but not the service. The economically backward people do not have money for the higher education.

Health is third priority
Poor pregnant women are giving birth to baby in the verandah of Gandhi hospital because hospital did not have bed. It is such a pathetic situation in general hospitals. Most of the people can’t office corporate hospital. The hospitals are in bad shape in villages.

6:20 pm
Party name is Praja Rajyam
People belonging to various sections of society jointly announced the name of the part in the presence of Chiranjeevi. And the party name is "Praja Rajyam". Tagline of the party is “Preme Lakshyam – Seve Margam”

We have great resources in India
I am impressed by the development and infrastructure in west countries. But we have tremendous natural and human resources. We work hard in India. But we d not have enough guidance and implementing capabilities at the organizational level. I am confident that people Andhra will help me to get me the opportunity to guide and implement the human and natural resources of us in a better way.

6:10 pm
Social justice is the party motto
The motto of our party is to have social justice. Some part of society is getting ample opportunity. Most part of the society is getting very little opportunity. My party motto is to balance the social imbalance.

6:07 pm
I represented lower strata of society
I acted as Dalit youth in my debut film Pranam Khareedu. I acted as cobbler in award winning Swayam Krushi. I did the role of Dalit IAS officer in Kondaveeti Donga. I represented Dalits in Rudraveena. I always associated with lower strata of the society because of the struggles I had gone through.

6:05 pm
I had single meal a day in beginning days of career
In my beginning days of my career I used to have single meal every day as I could not afford food for twice everyday. I need 300 rupees per month as expenses during my stay at Chennai. But I asked my parents to send only 150 rupees. I used to have meals only once and used to have water and tea during the remaining part of the day.

6:00 pm
I wore knickers in intermediate
I studied my intermediate in Sharma college of Ongole. As we could not afford pants, I had to wear knickers even in my intermediate. I had to cooperate with parents and wear knickers though I was embarrassed.

5:55 pm
I remember struggling days as kid
I was the elder son in a family of lower middle class family. I used remember the days when I had to get the groceries home by walk as we did not have enough money to travel in a rickshaw. There were times when we did not have money and we used to pool the change so that we could live for the next two days using that change.

BJP Out To Woo Chiru

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s stepped up efforts to woo actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi to its fold, have put the Left parties in a dilemma. The Left, which is hoping an alliance with the Praja Rajyam is now wondering whether Chiranjeevi would sail with the BJP in the next elections. “It appears that Chiranjeevi will keep his options open for some more time and so will we,” a senior CPI(M) leader said.

The BJP did not hide its eagerness to get close to Chiranjeevi as was evident from the national president, Mr Rajnath Singh, asking the state BJP president, Mr Bandaru Dattatreya, to prepare a report on the possibilities of the two parties coming close. The party also announced that it was Mr L.K. Advani who called up Chiranjeevi after he had announced his plans on August 17.

Mr Dattatreya announced that there were lot of similarities between Chiranjeevi’s agenda and that of his party. Another senior party leader, Mr Vidyasagar Rao, described the large gathering at Tirupati as a reflection of people’s desire for change in the state politics. Till now, BJP leaders from the state were categorical in stating that Chiranjeevi called up Mr Advani and sought his blessings.

Does Chiru Inspires Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth

Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi launched his political party, Prajarajyam, on Tuesday following in the footsteps of the likes of MGR and NTR.

Chiranjeevi promise of people's power capitalises on the disillusionment with mainstream political parties in Andhra Pradesh.

“I understand the problems of people, you people needed my help,” Chiranjeevi said.

Chiranjeevi's transition is part of a long tradition of actors courting politics in south India, like MGR's AIADMK in Tamil Nadu and NTR's Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh.

“It is the disillusionment of the people that will give a spur to this movement. It is easier for stars to cash on such situation as they have a mass appeal,” says Editor, Tuglaq, Cho Ramaswamy.

But will Chiranjeevi's blockbuster political debut make Tamil superstar Rajinikanth take that much-anticipated plunge into politics?

The actor who has been wooed by many a political party has been maintaining a deliberate silence.

Yet, he has made news for his comments on political issues and sometimes the lack of them. The actor most recent run-in with politics was when pro-Kannada groups threatened to stall the release of his film Kuselan because of comments he made on the Hoggenakkal issue.

In 2002, Rajini became the target of attack after he refused to participate in the Tamil film industry's rally on the Cauvery issue.
The actor then went on a much-publicised fast asking for a peaceful settlement and interlinking rivers.

The superstar is also said to have disguised himself to attend a political rally on the Ram Setu issue.

Chiranjeevi Launches 'Praja Rajyam' Amid Huge Fanfare

In true cinematic style, Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi launched his party 'Praja Rajyam' before a mammoth crowd of his fans and supporters pledging to work for social justice as its main agenda and to root out corruption.

He made the much-awaited announcement in this temple town in filmy style after a long speech and a short dialogue session with the assembled gathering. Soon after he announced the name a short song and sequence came on the giant screen behind him on the dais which the audience lapped it up enormously.

The 53-year-old matinee idol and son of a police constable outlined his party's vision in various sectors and also unveiled the party flag -- green and white with the sun in the middle - amidst rapturous applause from the huge gathering.

In his more than hour-long speech, the megastar, however, skirted thorny issues like Telangana statehood demand, Naxalism and categorisation of Scheduled Castes, saying a "collective decision" would be taken on these matters after "scientific evaluation".

"On these sensitive issues, I cannot take an immediate decision. We will take inputs from intellectuals and come to a collective decision", Chiranjeevi told the gathering at the sprawling 120-acre Avilala Tank.

Chiranjeevi, a Padma Bhushan awardee, has acted in 148 films. Former President A P J Abdul Kalam had inspired him to take a plunge into politics and vowed to bring about positive change in politics.

Earlier, excited over their matinee idol's political debut, Chiranjeevi's fans went out of control at the site of the public meeting leading police to lathicharge on them.

Thousands of Chiranjeevi fans, who poured in from all over Andhra Pradesh to listen to their star revealing the name and agenda of his party, swamped into the chamber which was alloted for physically challenged people.

Chiranjeevi said his party would work for the empowerment of poor and weaker sections of the society.

Touching upon a string of socio-economic issues, he said Praja Rajyam would accord top priority for agricultural development and welfare of farmers, primary health, education, labour welfare, opportunities for youth and women.

The actor, who was the sole speaker at the more than two-hour-long meeting, also promised to come up with a clear-cut policy on regulation of liquor trade.

"Fighting corruption, particularly the political corruption, will be one of our main agenda," Chiranjeevi said.

"Change and Social Justice" appeared to be the mantra of mega star as he unveiled his political vision before the gathering.

"Today, we are sounding the bugle for a major battle against the social ills. There are no leaders in the battle but only servants. I am your servant. We will win this battle. No one can stop us," Chiranjeevi said with a dramatic flourish. On the raging demand for separate Telangana state, Chiranjeevi appeared to tread a cautious path.

Attributing the backwardness in Telangana region to the failure of the successive governments, he said, "If the division becomes inevitable, we will co-operate and assist the process. Let us respect the sentiments of the region which has suffered neglect in all sectors."

Chiranjeevi, who hails from the backward 'Kapu' community, said his party would also work for "additional reservations" for the economically backward among the forward castes.

Invoking Kalam's pet concept of PURA (Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas), he said Praja Rajyam would strive for realising the dream of "Gram Swaraj."

Referring to the controversy over Special Economic Zones, he said his party would oppose acquisition of farm lands for SEZs.

"While we are for industrialisation, we will not allow fertile lands to be taken over in the name of development. We will also oppose selling away of government lands," Chiranjeevi said.

Stage Set For Grand Launch Of Chiranjeevi Party

Telugu star Chiranjeevi is set to announce the name and policies of his new political party in this temple town in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday at a rally expected to be attended by a million people.

The actor, who announced his entry into politics August 17, will declare the agenda of his 'pro-poor' party, which may alter the political equations in the southern state ahead of the March 2009 assembly elections.

It will be a one-man show at Avilal Cheruvu or Avilala lake bed ground. Chiranjeevi alone will occupy the dais during the massive show of strength planned in true filmi style. Congress MP Hariram Jogaiah, who has joined Chianjeevi's party, said the actor would be the only speaker.

Jogaiah and also leaders of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), who have joined the actor's party in the past one week, besides Chiranjeevi's brother-in-law and chief advisor Allu Arvind, brothers and actors Naga Babu and Pawan Kalyan will sit among the audience.

The decks were cleared for the meet Aug 21 when the Supreme Court refused to stop the event on a petition by a local NGO, which argued that the event on lake bed would harm the environment.

As many as 23 special trains, hundreds of private and state-owned buses will ferry Chiranjeevi fans from different parts of the state. A majority of the people are expected from coastal Andhra, the actor's home region.

As many as 5,000 Telugu NRIs from different countries, mainly the US, are expected to attend the meet. A group of NRIs are already touring parts of the state to mobilise public support for the actor.

Chiranjeevi, who turned 53 on Friday, choose August 26, the birth anniversary of Mother Teresa, to launch his political party.

At his first news conference, the actor said he was inspired by Mother Teresa and declared that he too was dedicating his life to serve the poor.

After a 30-year career in films, Chiru, as the actor is popularly known, donned a new role like matinee idol NT Rama Rao, who changed the course of Andhra politics by coming to power within nine months of launching TDP in 1982.

Chiru, one of the highest paid actors in India and whose fan following is compared to NTR's, is engaged in social services like running blood and eye camps. In another gesture, he enrolled a physically challenged youth as the first member of the party.

Elaborate arrangements have been made for the meeting, which will begin after Chiranjeevi pays obeisance at the Lord Venkateshwara temple on Tirumala Hills. The three-hour meeting is set to begin at 4 pm.

Adding filmi touch to the mega event, the organisers have hired two helicopters. A chopper will shower flower petals on the venue, while another will record the event, beaming it across 70 huge LCD screens deployed around the area.

Over 3,000 policemen have been deployed at the venue besides an equal number of volunteers of the Chiru Rashtra Yuvatha (youth wing).

In his speech, Chiru is expected to explain the reasons for taking a plunge into politics, his mission and goals, and announce the policies and programmes of the party.

After the public meeting, Chiru will form core committee of the party and launch state-wide tour to mobilise public support for the party.

Mega Mania Grips Tirupati

Behind the dais from where megastar Chiranjeevi is slated to turn into a politician on Tuesday, sat a few hundred men in a sombre mood.

Comprising men and women, many with tonsured heads, they form the 3000-odd volunteers.

On Monday evening, on the eve of the political meeting, they were listening attentively to a team leader who told them how to manage and herd the crowd into the 40 enclosures that have been created to accommodate about four lakh people. From the look on their faces, it was clear that crowd management was the uppermost concern in their minds.

How fragile the situation can turn in a matter of seconds was made clear when Pawan Kalyan, filmstar and the younger brother of Chiranjeevi, made an appearance wearing a dhoti, a shirt and barefoot.

Despite the best efforts of his securitymen to form a cordon around him, many of the hundreds of onlookers whistled, raised slogans and gatecrashed to mob him.

"Yes, managing the crowd on Tuesday will be a major concern and we are according it top priority," said P Rajesh, a software engineer from Hyderabad who is part of about 150 youngsters from the state capital going by the name ‘the do it' volunteers.

According to Allu Arvind, his brother-in-law and star of the event insisted on coming to the temple town by regular commercial flight.

However, in case a traffic jam occurs enroute, a helicopter has been kept as standby to ferry him from the airport to the venue.

The organisers claimed that traffic arrangements for Tuesday have been made in such a manner that pilgrims descending on Tirupati for darshan will not be affected in any manner.

The meeting itself, scheduled from 4 pm to 7 pm, will include a cultural programme lasting about one hour while another hour has been earmarked for Chiranjeevi to speak.

"All other details, including the name of the party, its agenda and any star entrants to the party will be unveiled on Tuesday," Arvind said.

According to Arvind, the meeting at any cost would be over by 7 pm. "We want to ensure that those people who come to the meeting from the nearby districts are able to reach their homes by nightfall," he said.

However, according to sources, another reason for them to stick to a deadline is to ensure that Chiranjeevi is able to leave the temple town by Tuesday itself.

In order to prevent traffic jams due to sudden influx of people for the meeting, the authorities have decided to curtail all train services at Renigunta itself and not allow it into Tirupati.

With the Chandragiri-Renigunta bypass slated to be closed because of its proximity to the meeting, the adjoining arterial roads would be clogged with traffic because of which the authorities have made arrangements to ensure that all vehicles coming for the meeting would be allowed into the city in a single line.

The eight-feet high huge dais, comprising big pictures of Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, B R Ambedkar, Jyotirao Phule and a digital screen at the centre, attracted hundreds of people.

Nine digital screens have been installed at strategic places for the crowd to listen to a larger-than-life Chiranjeevi. And in a display of some order unlike many political meetings, first aid clinics, fire engines and water packets are being arranged for the public.

Over 2,500 security personnel including bomb disposal squads and dog squads have been pressed into service to maintain order.

As dusk set in on Monday, the crowds still thronged the meeting venue and a huge air of expectation enveloped the area.

"Tomorrow, our annaiah will launch a movement for social justice," said G Arun Kumar, a physically challenged person from Khammam district who claimed that Pawan Kalyan has promised him a job.

Among the enclosures at the venue are exclusive ones for women and the physically challenged. Many, like Arun Kumar, are hoping that Tuesday will usher in a new dawn and change the political equation in the state forever.

If He Is Struck In Traffic, A Helicopter Been Planned To Pick Him

"As safety of people coming to the maiden public meeting of Chiranjeevi is our top priority, we have made elaborate arrangements to ensure its smooth conduct on tuesday," says Allu Aravind, brother-in-law of megatar.

Addressing a media conference here today, he said all necessary arrangements were made to bring Chiranjeevi from the airport to Avilala tank, venue of the public meeting.

"If he is struck in traffic, a helicopter has been kept standby to pick him from that spot," he said.

Aravind, who maintained caution while fielding a barrage of questions from mediapersons, did not reveal any details pertaining to Chiranjeevi’s party and leaders joining the new political outfit on tuesday. "The entire programme will be held from 4 to 7 pm for the convenience of public. Cultural programmes will be held before Chiranjeevi’s speech."

Emphasising on safety, he urged the people coming from different parts of the State to drive safely. "Your safety is our priority. Follow traffic rules, avoid overspeed and don’t cause traffic jams, there by causing inconvenience to others.

Fans coming to the meeting have been asked not to bring crackers. People will be allowed into the venue from 11 am only for security reasons," he said.

Every effort was made to see that no inconvenience was caused to pilgrims visiting Tirumala. "If you feel any inconvenience, please forgive and bear with us," he urged pilgrims.

Arrangements were made at the venue for an estimated crowd of 10 lakh. Special enclosures were set up for differently abled and women.

Trained volunteers would assist the police in crowd management. To ensure that Chiranjeevi is visible to every one, huge digital screens were set up.

Arrangements for drinking water and first aid were also made. Eight ambulances were kept ready at the venue.

He thanked the district collector, police, fire and other officials for extending their cooperation in making arrangements for the mega event.

Security advisor to Chiranjeevi C Anjaneyulu Reddy was also present.

Two More TDP MLA's Ready To Jump Into Chiru Party

More trouble seems to be in the offing for the embattled Telugu Desam Party as two of its MLAs are likely to cross over to Chiranjeevi’s camp in the next few days.

The MLAs - Ch Ayyanna Patrudu (Narsipatnam) and G Srinivasa Rao (Chodavaram) - who are on the party’s watch list, skipped the first day of the monsoon session of the Assembly.

Rumours have been doing the rounds in the political circles for the last few days that the two MLAs will join Chiranjeevi’s party.

They are likely to attend Chiru’s meeting at Tirupati on Tuesday.

Ayyanna Patrudu has had strained relations with party chief N Chandrababu Naidu for over a year after he levelled serious allegations against the party during Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) elections.

Patrudu, who belongs to the BC community, alleged that tickets for GVMC polls were sold by a group of leaders and in the process, BCs were meted out a raw deal.

Stung by this, Naidu constituted a committee to look into his allegations.

Naidu also contemplated to suspend Ayyanna Patrudu from the party but changed his mind as other seniors suggested that such a move would send wrong signals to the BCs.

Though Chodavaram MLA Srinivasa Rao had no problem with party, he has reportedly decided to quit the party foreseeing a brighter future in Chiranjeevi’s party. Srinivasa Rao also belongs BC community.
